Letter to the Editor: Keep the giving spirit alive

November 18, 2011

From the Davis Enterprise

Keep the giving spirit alive

As the Davis Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign coordinators, we would like to thank Anoushka and Milan Chander for their wonderful letter Nov. 13 to The Davis Enterprise. Their comments capture the spirit and the aims of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF — to make Halloween count by using it as an opportunity for those who have much to give to those who have far too little.

Children like Anoushka and Milan give us hope that we can raise generations of children who see themselves as not only citizens of Davis or of California or of the United States, but citizens of the world who share concern for their brothers and sisters wherever they live.

Mention should also be made of the parents of these and the other children who participated in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF for their role in creating this awareness of world citizenship.

Anoushka and Milan also make another important point. Halloween may be over, but you can still help children in countries ravaged by war, famine, economic distress and political unrest. Go the Davis United Nations Association website at groups.dcn.org/davisuna, and find where you can send donations to the Davis Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign for 2011.
