Letters to the Editor: Trick-or-treating for UNICEF

October 30, 2013

From the Davis Enterprise

On Oct. 22, the Davis City Council once again recognized Davis’ children for their “outstanding contributions” to UNICEF and proclaimed the last week of October “Support UNICEF Week.”

Last year alone, Davis schoolchildren raised $11,700 trick-or-treating for UNICEF. That money goes to provide lifesaving medicine, water and food, as well as life-changing education to children worldwide.

On Halloween, look for children carrying orange Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF collection boxes, distributed by Davis schools to participating kids. Keep in mind that no donation is too small. It costs just 7 cents for oral rehydration salts to help save the life of a child poisoned by contaminated water. And many small donations add up. Large donations are welcome, too.

Thank you to the council for recognizing these outstanding contributions of Davis’ children. Thank you as well to the council members and those present in Community Chambers who contributed the first donations to this year’s campaign.

UNICEF is entirely dependent on voluntary contributions. The Davis chapter of the United Nations Association maintains a UNICEF bank account at First Northern Bank and welcomes donations year-round. To make a tax-deductible donation, send a check to UNICEF (UNA-USA Account), c/o First Northern Bank, 434 Second St., Davis, CA 95616.
