TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF 2019

TRICK OR TREAT SITE COORDINATOR GUIDELINES

ORDERING MATERIALS:  Week of September 16

q  Contact principal and PTA. Provide information and ask for support. Consider asking to show a video during a PTA or staff meeting. We have gotten great support from PTA’s over the years.

q  Order collection boxes and free teacher packets from https://www.unicefusa.org/form/trick-or-treat/box-order or 800.4UNICEF (Do this early—boxes take up to 2 weeks AND LONGER to arrive!)

q  Let Kristen know asap if you need help with this.

EDUCATION AND PUBLICITY: Week of September 23-October 26

q  Check on deadline for submitting blurb about Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF to school PTA e-newsletter or e-blasts.

q  Have “UNICEF Ambassadors” or other students (student government is often interested) to make posters to display in hallways/classrooms.

q  Have “UNICEF Ambassadors” or other students write letters to the Davis Enterprise about their school’s efforts or encouraging residents to look out for UNICEF trick-or-treaters.

PERMISSIONS AND BOX DISTRIBUTION: October 1-30

q  Include brief article and reproducible parent letter and/or permission slip in school newsletter.

q  Collect and count permission slips if your school requires them, write names on boxes and distribute boxes to classrooms. Many schools do not need permission slips to distribute boxes.

COLLECT BOXES AND DEPOSIT DONATIONS: November 1 and following weeks

q  United Nations Association, Davis keeps a UNICEF account at First Northern Bank:

o   434 Second Street (corner 2nd and D Streets, Davis)

o   Davis, CA 95616

o   758-7500

q  Collect boxes from school office. Consider rolling luggage because coins are heavy. Empty coins into a container (a heavy plastic bag can work well), count bills and checks.

q  Please make copies of any checks, so that we can send thank-you notes.

q  Call First Northern Bank to schedule an appointment for coin-counting (758-7500). This is very important because coin-counting can be time intensive.  You will receive a much happier reception at the bank if you bring the coins when the bank is not busy.

q  Deposit money in the UNICEF account at First Northern. YOU WILL NEED THE ACCOUNT NUMBER: 03324758.

q  E-mail Kristen Weeks-Norton, kwn@sbcglobal.net, and let her know the amount of the deposit. Make a note of the amount for your own records.

FOLLOW-UP: Week of November 4

q  Collect any additional boxes that trickled in and deposit money in bank. Leave the deposit slip at the bank.

Put thank-you in your school newsletter.  Let the kids and parents know how successful the campaign was. This is really important as it gives them a sense of accomplishment as well as a sense of accountability—there is a record of evidence that the money is going where it is supposed to go.

q  If you are not able to be site coordinator next year, PLEASE help find someone to take over the job and give that person’s name and contact information to Jennifer Holman, jennifersueholman@gmail.com, or Kristen Weeks-Norton, kwn@sbcglobal.net.
