On November 17, our Jazz Band presented its annual Jazz Extravaganza. It was a highly energetic performance including hot swing, cool ballads, and electric Latin styles. Fredrick Lange and the Davis High School Jazz Band welcomed back world-famous trumpeter, Mike Vax, as guest artist. Mike played with our students about five years ago (I think some of his notes are still lingering around the Varsity Theater) and brought down the house with his highly energetic playing. He was formerly high note trumpeter for the famous Stan Kenton Orchestra and now he brings this exciting technique to our own IPAB Theater. It was a fantastic evening featuring arrangements of the familiar songs, “Soon,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” and “I Can’t Get Started.” (S’Wonderful, S’Marvelous, S’more Gershwin! and S'more from Fred Lange's November Newsletter updates... )
