2017 President's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Davis Schools Orchestral Music Association (DSOMA). By signing up to take an orchestra class at our Davis schools, your child has become part of our DSOMA family of over 1,000 student musicians!

Dear Orchestra Parents and Families,

Welcome to the Davis Schools Orchestral Music Association (DSOMA). By signing up to take an orchestra class at our Davis schools, your child has become part of our DSOMA family of over 1,000 student musicians!

Who we are:

DSOMA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which celebrates, promotes, and supports the vision of a comprehensive musical education for all of the Davis Joint Unified School District's students.

DSOMA and our volunteers serve all Davis school orchestra programs from fourth grade through twelfth grade. We support eight student orchestras by assisting with instrument purchases, maintenance and repairs, supplying sheet music, helping at concerts, organizing field trips, providing scholarships, and advocating for our schools' music programs.

How to get involved:

There are many ways to get involved in DSOMA, from volunteering as a chaperone, to helping coordinate field trips, to attending DSOMA meetings. Our orchestra program continues to grow in Davis because of the volunteers who provide their support. There is an opportunity for all of you to make an impact, so please visit our website at groups.dcn.org/dsoma to find out more.

How to support the programs:

Financial support for the DJUSD Orchestra Program may be made by way of checks mailed to DSOMA, P.O. Box 1305, Davis, CA 95617. We also accept musical instruments that can serve our students (please contact us to discuss).

A reminder from the school district:

The school district reminds parents that for the avoidance of conflict, and per school board policy, teachers may not accept any kind of remuneration for tutoring a student enrolled in any of their classes. This includes music teachers providing private lessons, and whether remuneration is made by way of cash, or by way of gifts in lieu of payment.

On behalf of DSOMA, we look forward to working with you for the betterment of our orchestral programs. If you would like to reach me directly, you can do so at president@dsoma.org. To reach the entire DSOMA board, email dsomaboard@dsoma.org

Regards,

Grace Osborne, President
