Non-League #2 Results

Lost both their matches in the morning (both went 3 games). It became quite confusing because EVERY TEAM we played today was a NorCal Select team! We played our first game in bracket play and won (against an area league team from NorCal) then we won against another NorCal team, and ended up in the final game against a team we lost to in pool play and WON! So after losing pool, we won the tournament. I was especially proud of the girls and their endurance to play 5 matches today, 3 of which were 3 game matches. They showed fatigue in the last match, but played through and outlasted the other team. Molly O'Hagan showed her true calling as an outside hitter. She is very powerful at the net and had several long serving runs. Roxanne Lucero surprised us. First by not "showing up" for the first two matches - (she was there, but her typical "count on me" passing was nowhere to be found. Then, after lunch, she began passing nails! Briana Mason received several compliments from other coaches on her setting and played every minute of every game as our only setter for the day. April Esser did very well as a right side hitter and passer today. She remained very aggressive and vocal all day. Erica Palmer did a great job stepping in to pass when we needed her, and Olivia James did a great job at the net blocking.

Went 2-2 on the weekend. The team's goal this tournament was to work on serving and hitting. The girls made a big improvement from our last tournament. As a team we had 57 aces and 26 kills in 4 matches. Hilary Parsons had 18 aces and 4 kills. Jolie Law had 12 aces and 6 kills. Katie Bunch had 9 kills and on the defensive side Caroline Peters had 4 digs. Great job girls!

Had their very first tournament on Saturday. They started the tournament very well, but losing their first game 24-26. Overall we finished 1-3 in the tournament, finishing in 11th. Serving and passing exceeded coaches expectations, as did their ability to learn and master the service-receive rotation and the concept of defense in two practices. Our setter Kayla Beal did an excellent job of keeping the rally going, and setting up our hitters for several kills throughout the day. Nickole Hunley-Moore did a great job on the right-side by playing great defense and serving very well. Adriane Wisner and Kaisha Johnson did great playing in the middle position, defending our side of the net. Celine Bertero and Allie Loux did a great job playing backrow for our middles. They passed and played defense very well all day long. Katie Anderson and Ally Bevins did a fantastic job playing outside. Their serving and passing was great all day. The coaches are looking forward to working hard in practice, and doing even better at our next tournament in March.
