Power League Qualifier Results
18-Gold
Had an all around good tournament in terms
of winning. Saturday we came out pretty sloppy and lost all of our
games dropping to 81st seed. On Sunday however we beat the 80th seed to
play against the 25th seed, (Stingray 18 - 1) and beat them in a
thriller to finish 25th in the tournament. Even though we lost all of
our games on Saturday we were able to bounce back and win 2 out of our
3 matches on Sunday. At this tournament I decided to run a 6 -2 which
turned at positive, of course there are pros and cons. Leah is a great
hitter and was able to put some balls down, however with our ball
control we had too many balls that were close to the net that couldn't
be dumped. Two major problems we had in this tournament was serving,
and capitalizing off of free balls/down balls. All in all the girls
played great and I saw that they were able to pull through and have
confidence even when the game was on the line.
16-Gold
Started the tournament at seed #82. Saturday they won two and lost two to finish #63. We beat Stingrays 15-1 to take their #63 and lost to #10 Vision to end the day. They really gave it their all. Sunday, it seemed, another team showed up, not my 16 gold. In our first match against #123, Roxanne Lucero stepped in to set. She did an outstanding job, however the team was flat and quiet. We took that team to 3 games, barely squeaking out the much needed win in the third game 16-14. The scheduling was done very weird for this second day - we refereed the first match, then played 4 matches in a row. These were long matches, with very little time in between. At 8:30 we reffed, then played until 2:30 without a break. The girls learned a very valuable lesson about packing high energy food that can be eaten in a little amount of time. Our last match was against the Stingrays again, and this time we lost. This moved us down to #87 to start our league season.
14-Gold
On Saturday, the 14-Gold team took awhile to warm up but played well as a team. Caitlyn Smith had 11 serving aces, Freddie Schmitendorf had 5 kills, Laura Turold had 6 digs, and Hilary Parsons had 5 set assists. We ended Saturday’s play seeded 65. We had a tough first game on Sunday, but the girls came together as a team and we won our last two matches. Teaghan Phillips and Jolie Law had very good defensive play. This weekend was a learning experience for both the girls and the coaches. We grew leaps and bounds as a team and we are all proud of that.
