18-Gold
The 18's had a good tournament, and a great experience for all the girls. On Friday we started pool play as the 3rd seed in pool 3 at 3 pm. We dropped the first 2 games against Velocity 18 - 1 and Kitsap 18 - 1 but were both very good games because of improvement. Both matches we hung in very close and saw better consistency, which is exactly what I wanted to see. Danielle Nalley did a great job stepping up to the plate, Leah Anderson was on fire having a killing percentage of about .700, and Amanda Pielstick did a great job of coming in and setting consistently on the court. Our last match of the day against Klub Boom 18 - 1 was a 3 game thriller and in the end we won the match 15 - 10. On Saturday once again we started pool play at 3 pm. in another 4 team pool, our first match against Spokane Sky we lost in 3 games which was disappointing because we came out strong and won the first game 25 - 18, but in the second match we were able to bounce back and beat Peninsula T.T. in 2 games. We lost our last match against Sudden Impact. Jenny Woods was able to come in and play through her sickness, Noel Reddick was very versatile on the court and has some game winning blocks, Brittney Younger was able to get some great connections with our setters. This placed us in a 3-way tie with Peninsula, and Spokane Sky, since we had the best winning percentage; we ended up 2nd in our pool. On Sunday we were placed in the Flight 2 Bracket against Narrows 18 - 1 (Who ended up winning the Flight 2 Bracket) and lost to them in 2 very close games. At the end we ended up 33rd in the entire tournament. On Sunday Jovonna Gonzalez had some great passes and great hitting and was very consistent on the court. Sara Morand was also very consistency and had some awesome kills throughout the tournament. All in all the tournament was exactly what I was hopping for. All the girls were able to play together, and our consistency was much better. Sammy Falat had a great tournament being able to adjust to each ball from each hitter, our serve receive passing was excellent this tournament, which is an essential part of volleyball. This tournament was a great experience and great boost for the girls and all in all it was an awesome tournament.
15-Gold
The 15-1 team did pretty well. On Friday, we were 4th in our pool and finished 2nd, which moved us up into the upper half of the tournament. Our first match was against Jumpstart 15 (Win: 26-24, 23-25, 15-4). Next we played WVBA Mizuno and lost: 15-25, 17-25. Our last match was against Bend Fieldhouse Fire, and we won 25-15, 25-21. Saturday we met with some tougher competition. Again, I have to guess on seed numbers, but I believe we played the #1 team (Spokane Sky) as our first match. We lost, but the scores were close: 25-13, 14-25, 14-16. We played with so much control and level energy. Next, we played against Kent Jrs. and lost 18-25, 13-25. This team went on to win our pool and had won the tournament last year for the bid. Our last match was against the Jaguars (still not sure where they were from) and we won: 20-25, 25-23, 15-13. A close, tough match. Sunday we went to the silver bracket. We lost the first match (single elimination) against City Beach. Looking at the brackets, it seems we finished #15 out of 38 teams. Roxanne: did an great job passing for us this weekend. She is always positive and levelheaded. Hailey: came in on Sunday to play the best match of her season. She was an outstanding passer and played incredible defense in our match against Kent. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she sparked a fire under her teammates during that game. Terren: very consistent all weekend. She came in to serve only two balls in the game against the Jaguars on Saturday. She got two aces, under pressure, to win the game. It was a very key moment in the tournament. Olivia: even after missing a week of practices from the flu and remaining at less than 100% for the weekend, she went in and made some great (and sometimes surprising) plays. She pushed herself for the team and it showed with her great net play against Spokane Sky on Saturday. Erica: her defense has improved tremendously in the last few weeks. Her confidence is coming slowly behind...she got perfect passes when it counted, especially in the game against Spokane Sky. Molly: did a fantastic job of controlling the net. Her offense and blocking were outstanding. Molly has undying energy and quick reactions to get to the block every time. Briana: played in every minute of every match this weekend. She set all the way around and even fit in some great defense in the match against the Jaguars on Saturday. Chloe: did a great job at the net, especially on Friday - she was unstoppable in the game against Jumpstart. Her quick offense as an outside, middle and opposite really helped us earn runs of points. She even went in as a libero during one game this weekend. Morgan: stayed very consistent all weekend, playing almost every position. She earned 7 kills, hitting her famous line shot in one game on Saturday. April: her crazy energy on Sunday led the team to win the match against the Jaguars on Sunday. After we had lost our first two matches, she came out, fired up and played great.
