Results of 17-1 team's trip to Las Vegas over President's Day Weekend

The Davis 17-1 team went to Vegas seeded 89th in the Open Division tournament. Playing in the Open Division was a first time experience for most of the girls.  On Saturday we played in a five team pool with Orlando VBC, Club West, Santa Barbara 17's and Louisiana. The players were a little nervous to compete against some of the best 17's teams in the nation but came out strong showing that we can compete with these team. We ended up 0-4 losing a couple of very close matches.

That night the team went back to their hotel rooms and came up with some new cheers that would help create some new energy on the team. On Sunday a new team emerged with tons of energy ready to take on the world. We played Club Red first and this Arizona team didn't know what hit them. We came out on fire and every hitter on our team hit and blocked well. We won game one 25-13 (and they were the 2nd seeded team in our pool). In game two Club Red came back ready to battle and Davis lost 23-25. The third game we had a couple of bad passing streaks and we lost 11-15. Our second match was against Texas Advantage 17-2 and we lost this match in 2 straight. They were a better hitting team than us and Davis couldn't get their offense going. Our third match was against Club Idaho and it was a carbon copy of our match against Club Red. Davis came out on fire. We easily won the first game 25-16 due to our tough serving and consistent passing. In game two we let Idaho come back and we lost another close game 25-27. In the third game our passing broke down and we lost a tough game 2-15. This brought our overall record to 0-7 on the weekend.

Monday was the last day of the tournament and it was single elimination. We played South Bay and again the same pattern of win the first (25-23), lose a close second game (25-27) and then losing the third (6-15) brought Davis to their final loss. The team went 0-8 but it was great learning experience. Davis showed that they CAN play against the OPEN level teams and the only thing holding them back is confidence. I have no doubt in mind that with more experience the players will learn how to win and finish games. GO DAVIS!!
