15-1
15-2
Last weekend at Mare Island Sport Center, Davis 15-2 played in its
second Power League tournament. Davis started the day with a
match against the San Francisco Tremors. Davis lost a close game
one 25-23 then dropped game two 25-19. Though they didn’t get the
win, strong passing from Gilanne Del Rosario and
Megan Bielawski’s net play started in this early match
and would carry over though out the day. Davis met another tough
opponent in their second pool play match in the form of Empire Gold
15-3. Davis lost the match 25-12 in the first game and 25-21 in
the second game. Melani Rabaino and
Adriane Wisner both put up strong serving performances
in the match, leading the team with two and four aces
respectively. Davis’ third match of the day was against the first
seed of the tournament and ended up being their toughest of the
day. They
fought hard against Club NYC but came up short losing two games to
one. Avalon Lucero had a nice setting match even
when the team struggled passing and worked hard to get her teammates
swings. In their final pool play match Davis faced Club
Levile. Consistant passing and defense from libero Celine
Bertero and aces from Ashley Rabaino,
Melani Rabaino, and two from Adriane
Wisner all contributed to Davis’ first victory of the
day. Davis took Club Levile two games to none. After
beating Club Levile, Davis had to turn around and play them for a
second time in their first game of bracket play. Club Levile was
out for revenge and got it in a close two game match. Davis lost
25-20, then a heartbreaking 26-24. Sammy
Covington had a strong performance in this match recording
stats in three big categories; kills, aces, and digs. After such
a disappointing defeat Davis had to face Empire Gold 15-3, a team that
had defeated them earlier in the day, in their final match. Davis
was down in the match one game to none after a 25-23 defeat in game
one. However, Davis would come back to win games two, 25-17, and
three, 15-12, to end the day on a very good note. Every girl on
the team contributed to their final win of the day including
Megan Bielawski who scored one of the final points in
game two with a stellar block. Injured Nickole
Hunley-Moore also contributed with her talk and enthusiasm on
the sidelines in this match and throughout the day.
