The 15-2 Power League #3 demonstrated the passion the girls have for
volleyball. It was a long day but the girls stuck it out all the way to
the last game of the bracket losing 15-13 in 3 games. Although the
girls went winless, they repeatedly mentioned the fun they were having
and that
they were fully enjoying themselves, which is all that matters.
The day started out against Empire 15-3 loss (20-25, 18-25) but good
things happened during the play. Melanie Rabaino led
the team on with a 6 pt. servings streak that included 2 aces. Later,
Adriane Wisner followed with 2 aces of her own. The
two teams battled back and forth both games. Game 2 started off with an
opening side-out kill from Avalon Lucero. Allowing us
to run the offense was the great serve receive passing from libero
Celine Bertero. Ultimately, miscommunication and a
serving run by Empire got the best of us to close the match in their
favor.
Match two of the day featured Point Break 15-2. In game 1 middle
Megan Bielawski had a great offensive game with 4
kills (feauturing her newly aquired cross-body shot). Nickole
Hunley-Moore pushed the other team back with a serving run of 5 points.
The second game continued to show
offensive prowess as Megan had 3 solo blocks and a
double block with Adriane. Ashley
Rabaino showed consistent serving throughout the game with 3
point runs here and there. The team, however, combined for a total 6
missed serves for the total match.
Match 3 of pool play demonstrated weak serve receive passing as the
girls struggled to get a good pass. Unforced hitting errors when they
did get a good pass kept them behind Crush XLVB for the majority of the
match. One ray of sunshine took form in middle Sammy
Covington as she showcased some power. She also did a fabulous
job handling second balls that came her way along the net. This day
really showed how fast she is improving and she is doing extremely
well.
The girls struggled early on in bracket play coming out of a lunch
break. Gilanne Del Rosario arrived in the afternoon to
give the girls the boost they needed to end the day the way they did
with an extremely close loss to Empire 15-3s. Although it was a loss,
the girls went home happy (and tired) knowing that they had played well
and it starts over again in practice on Tuesday. : )
