Southern California Qualifier Results
15-1
The 15-1's headed down to Anaheim for the weekend.......
Friday we were put in a 4 team pool, seeded 4th, playing at Rancho
Sports Complex in Temecula. Our opponents were SCVC 15's, Arroyo
15's and Golden West 15's. We played well, demonstrating solid
skill work, but our mental game was not at it's peak and we did not win
a match and left the pool holding our seed.
Day two placed us at CSU Long Beach in the PM wave, playing in one
of the hottest gyms ever in another 4 team pool! We were seeded
3rd in our pool. Our mental game matched our physical game on
Saturday and we quickly knocked off the 1st seeded team, Pinnacle 15's.
Our next match was against 2nd seeded TCA 15's and we knocked
them off too. Our last match was against 4th seeded SMBC 15's and
after a shaky 1st game loss, we came back and won the 2nd game and then
blew them out the 3rd game, easily winning 15-3. We took 1st in
our pool and left CSU Long Beach feeling great!
Because of our awesome wins on Saturday, we had a bye for the
first round of bracket play on Sunday at Rolling Hills Prep Building in
Torrance. Our first match was against Club Vegas and
unfortunately, again, our mental game was not with us, and we lost the
match in 2 games, ending our playing in Southern California.
Overall, play was solid, but we were lacking in confidence and the
internal fire to win some matches! Some of the girls showed
outstanding play this weekend....Setter Taylor Noack
was putting excellent sets up left and right and had the best
tournament play ever! Megan Bacchini's passing
was off the charts amazing all weekend and it was her serving that
clinched our 3rd game win against SMBC on Saturday. Jayme
MacQueen was unbeatable on defense, consistently moving her
feet and putting up great balls for our setters.
