Solo & Ensemble Recital for Band

Looking back to the Solo & Ensemble Recital of February 9, 2007

What a show!!!

We hope you were able to attend the 2nd annual Solo & Ensemble Recital on February 9th, which featured 16 performances by Harper Band students and two duets by Band Directors DuPertuis and Quick.  We also enjoyed a beautiful setting for our 180 guests, iPod give-aways and great food, thanks to generous donations from these fine Davis businesses:  the best gelato and rasberry sorbetto from Icekrimski Cafe at the Varsity Theater; prizes of pizza coupons from Woodstock's Pizza; coffee from Cafe at the Docs; cake from the Davis Food Co-op, Safeway Stores, and Nugget Market at Oaktree Plaza; paper goods and beverages from Long's Drugs (east and west Davis locations); iPod underwriting from Harder and Company Community Research; and event underwriting from G & R Automotive and Hoffman Automotive.  We also unveiled the incredible gift of art from Steve Barbaria, which you can own as a poster and a T-shirt!

Looking back to the first ever Band Recital at Harper

The Harper Band program held its first Solo & Ensemble Recital on Friday evening, February 10, 2006.  The event was entitled "For the Love of Music" and over 170 people attended this fun evening of fine music and desserts served by the Band students.  The program included fourteen performances:  five soloists, seven duets, and one trio, plus two songs performed as a duet by our Band Directors, Clyde Quick and Jeff DuPertuis.  Music selections were broad - from the classics to pop songs old and new.  Ensemble performances with Harper students and their parents, friends, or music teachers provided refreshing variety to the evening's show.

For this one evening, the Harper MPR was transformed into a casual yet festive cabaret setting with round tables and decorations in keeping with St. Valentine's Day along with a little bling from seasonal Mardi Gras influences.  About 600 individual servings of dessert items and some beverages and supplies were provided by generous donations from local Davis businesses (listed below).  A great team of twenty parents served either on the planning committee or volunteered their time at the event.

Looking forward to the next Solo & Ensemble Recital in 2008

We are fortunate to live in a community of dedicated parents and abounding generous responses from our business community.  However, this Recital and other band community events cannot happen without a renewal of volunteers and the influx of new ideas, energy and enthusiasm.  If you enjoyed this event last year and would like to help with this year's Recital, contact us.  If you are new to Harper, we need you too; we are confident that you will enjoy your involvement and so we ask that you contact us as well!
