Harper Junior High PTO

Minutes of Meeting: June 28,2007

 

In attendance: Mary Hickman, Katie Rustad, Tiffany O’Brien, Jane Schafer- Kramer, Debbie Austin, Alan Uota, Lou Sobredo,  Mary Nicholson, Liz Allewelt- Smith, Chris Granger, Madeline Brattesani, Barbara Kaufman, Barbara Celli

 

Call to Order: 7: 00 p.m. Welcome and Introductions. Minutes of May 2007 meeting were reviewed and accepted by general consent.

 

Review of Slate: There were several changes to the slate. The new and approved slate is as follows.

President Report (Debbie Austin):

·                  Meeting schedule for the 2007-08 school year. We will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month. There will be an executive board meeting on August 21st. The October, February, and April meetings are all potential parent education nights. One idea for a parent ed night was to discuss how lunch works at the junior high level. (timing, nutrition, food offerings, sports, etc.)

·                  Our priorities…..Community building- We would like to create more social opportunities for parents.

  1. Barbara Celli is interested in creating/planning a  “Welcome Volunteer Event”.  We discussed different ways we might be able to involve more parents in PTO and how to make people feel welcome.
  2. Another idea was to have a “Garden Party”. Families could volunteer to help in the garden, we could share future garden plans and needs, and then all share a pizza dinner.
  3. David Inns had expressed interest in having another Spaghetti Dinner.
  4. Tiffany suggested establishing a year long “theme” such as Harper Family Spirit to encourage family involvement.
  5. Kids might plan a “Mix it Up Day” for parents.
  6. Lou suggested board members be more present at Back To School Night. (Wear t-shirts, be available for questions, etc)
  7. Jane reminded us that Harper will be celebrating France Harper and the new mural on FH’s birthday 9/24. Should we hold the spaghetti feed on the same night?

 

·                Frances Fund

1.  Past and present Frances Fund coordinators will meet and plan this summer.

  1. The Staff Luncheon will be 1 or 2 days before school starts. At this time PTO hands out a teacher needs survey.

 

·                  Registration

1.      Registration will be August 23rd and 24th. We will need volunteers.

2.      Jane noted that we need to review the back-to school packets.

      Jane, Debbie, and Alan will meet at 7 pm. on Tues. July 23rd at Common Grounds.

3.   It was suggested that we make directories for everyone and have an optional payment.

      We will try this for one year and see how it goes.

 

 

·                  Treasurer Report (Tiffany O’Brien):

       The 2007-2008 budget will be ready for approval at the October meeting. The budget should remain relatively stable. A draft will be ready to view at the end of July.
