October 8, Tuesday

Hike (2B), Dardanelles Lake

From south of Lake Tahoe we climb past Big Meadow, over a ridge, and wander down to beautiful Dardanelles Lake and good swimming.  We then retrace our route back to cars.  The hike is approximately 7 miles with 1200’ cumulative elevation gain. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.

October 9, Wednesday

Hike (1A). McKeon Ponderosa Loop (Canyon Keepers Hike)

We'll make a pleasant, approx. 3+ mile loop off of McKeon Ponderosa Trail, a not heavily used area of Auburn State Recreation Area.  We'll stop to enjoy the scenery and an early snack at a bench at about half way down McKeon Ponderosa and then head back up on an alternate route.  Nice pleasant hike through both forest and open areas above the Middle Fork American River. 

Bring water, snack, and essentials. 

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.

October 16, Wednesday

Hike (1A). Sagehen Creek

This is a pleasant, easy hike north of Truckee. We’ll walk along Sagehen Creek, going from Highway 89 to Stampede Reservoir, about 5 miles round-trip. This time of year, the aspens should be colorful, and we may see some Kokanee salmon near the reservoir.

Bring lunch, water and rain gear. Heavy rain cancels.

Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:00 a.m.

Hike (2B).  Round  Lake  (Yolano Group)

From south of Lake Tahoe we climb past Big Meadow, over a low ridge, down and then up to beautiful Round Lake.  Along the way we marvel at fall colors and geological spectacles.  We then retrace our route back to cars.  The hike is about 6.5+ miles with 1200’ cumulative elevation gain. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.

October 23, Wednesday

Hike (1A). Acorn Creek

 We’ll hike from ARC’s Acorn Creek trailhead (new 2107) off Salmon Falls Road.  The trail is a series of relatively short up and down sections with nice views of the South Fork American River and the creek.  There are 3 creek crossings – 2 small crossings with nicely placed rocks to assist and 1 bridge.   This is an out and back hike of approx. 4.5 miles with approx. 400 ft elevation/gain loss.  We’ll have lunch either within sight of the S.F. American River or by Acorn Creek.  There is a $5 parking fee. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  No dogs. Rain cancels.

Meet in Auburn at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 at 9:00 a.m. or at trailhead at 9:30 a.m.

Hike (2A). Pioneer Trail from Lang’s Crossing

 On this hike we’ll head east from Lang’s Crossing to have lunch at Lake Spaulding. The big-leaf maples make this a colorful autumn walk. About 6 miles with a total 880 ft elevation gain.

Bring lunch, water and essentials. No dogs. Heavy rain cancels.

Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 in Auburn at 8:30 a.m.
