Tuesday, May 7

Hike (2B).  Crockett Hills Regional Park, Bay Area 

 

This hike will explore the hills and valleys just south of Crockett.  From ridge tops we will enjoy splendid views of Suisun Bay, Carquinez Straight, Pinole Valley and Richmond.  Our route will include Soaring Eagle Trail, Sky Trail, Sugar City Trail, Wood Rat Trail and other exotic locales.  The hike is 7 miles with 1100 ft. cumulative elevation gain. Bring lunch, water, hat and essentials. Contact leader for meeting time and place.  No dogs. Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com.

 

Saturday, May 11

Hike (1A).  Redbud Trail, Cache Creek region (Yolano Group)

 

The Redbud trail near Clear Lake passes by an historic Native American site, winds up and over a low ridge and drops down to lovely Cache Creek.  With luck some redbud and wildflowers may still be in bloom.  If water level permits, we may cross Cache Creek and continue down the canyon. Hike (1A). Magnolia Ranch-Connector Trail 

 

We’ll start at the Magnolia Ranch, across the new bridge (2018) over Hastings Creek to the Connector Trail and then part of the Down and Up Trail on Cronan Ranch to our lunch spot alongside the South Fork American River.  This out and back hike is approx. 6 miles. It traverses a nice mix of ecosystems; open grassland, forest and then river side with several scenic overlooks of the South Fork American River.  Some short sections may be muddy if recent rain. Bring lunch, water and essentials.  No dogs. Rain cancels.  Meet at 9:30 a.m. at Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80 in Auburn or at Magnolia Ranch parking area at 10:00 a.m. Leader: Sheila Toner, 530-886-0673

 

Saturday, May 18

Hike (2B).  Cache Creek Ridges and Canyons (Yolano Group)

 

This hike will take us through lush Thompson and Craig canyons and across picturesque ridges above Cache Creek.  En route we will visit historic Road Kill Café.  Experience splendid oak-grasslands habitat and vistas.  The hike is approximately 7 miles with 1100 ft. cumulative elevation gain.  There is an easy river ford, calf deep.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Contact the leader for meeting time and place.  No dogs.  Rain cancels. Leader: Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com

Hike (1A). Western States Trail/ Railroad Bed Section (Canyon Keepers Hike)

 

Hike a short portion (approx. 4 miles round trip) of the Western States Trail that goes over the Mt. Quarry Bridge or “No Hands Bridge” and along portions of the Mt. Quarry RR route to Auburn.  We will cross a stream below a year-round waterfall en route.  Nice views of the river.  We will stop for lunch on the way back at the rocky beach just below the Quarry Bridge and enjoy the river.  Bring lunch, water and essentials.  Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:30 a.m.  No dogs.
