October 8, Tuesday

Hike (2B), Dardanelles Lake

From south of Lake Tahoe we climb past Big Meadow, over a ridge, and wander down to beautiful Dardanelles Lake and good swimming.  We then retrace our route back to cars.  The hike is approximately 7 miles with 1200’ cumulative elevation gain. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.

CANCELLED: Hike (1A). McKeon Ponderosa Loop (Canyon Keepers Hike)  Canceled by leader 

We'll make a pleasant, approx. 3+ mile loop off of McKeon Ponderosa Trail, a not heavily used area of Auburn State Recreation Area.  We'll stop to enjoy the scenery and an early snack at a bench at about half way down McKeon Ponderosa and then head back up on an alternate route.  Nice pleasant hike through both forest and open areas above the Middle Fork American River. 

Bring water, snack, and essentials. 

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.

Hike (1A). Sagehen Creek

This is a pleasant, easy hike north of Truckee. We’ll walk along Sagehen Creek, going from Highway 89 to Stampede Reservoir, about 5 miles round-trip. This time of year, the aspens should be colorful, and we may see some Kokanee salmon near the reservoir.

Bring lunch, water and rain gear. Heavy rain cancels.

Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:00 a.m.

Hike (2B).  Round  Lake  (Yolano Group)

From south of Lake Tahoe we climb past Big Meadow, over a low ridge, down and then up to beautiful Round Lake.  Along the way we marvel at fall colors and geological spectacles.  We then retrace our route back to cars.  The hike is about 6.5+ miles with 1200’ cumulative elevation gain. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.

Hike (1A). Olmstead Loop/Pond Hike
We’ll enjoy a nice mellow approx. 4 mile loop hike off the southern section of the larger Olmstead loop.  Our loop will take us through predominantly blue oak woodlands and alongside one of the larger ponds.
Bring water, essentials, snack.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.
Meet in Auburn at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 at 9:00 am or at Catecroft Gate off Hwy 49 just beyond Cool at 9:20 am.

Hike (2A). Pioneer Trail from Lang’s Crossing
On this hike we’ll head east from Lang’s Crossing to have lunch at Lake Spaulding. The big-leaf maples make this a colorful autumn walk. About 6 miles with a total 880 ft elevation gain.
