Marion Freeborn Undergraduate Scholarship

Jennifer Addleman is majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior with a minor in Nutrition Science and Management. She plans to pursue medical school to become an integrative and functional medicine doctor. She works in the Human Performance Lab as an Undergraduate Researcher and as a volunteer in the pediatric emergency department of the University of California Davis Medical Center. In her free time, she has explored various forms of physical activity and outdoor adventures. Her balance of studies and physical fitness seem to be working as she has earned a perfect grade-point average in a STEM major with two minors. 

Madeline Bright is majoring in Biological Sciences. She is planning to pursue a M.D./Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, as well as an M.D., to practice as a pediatric Oncologist. Her research work in the David Lab at UC Davis has helped solidify her career inspirations. As a future researcher, she wants to remain connected to her core research: improving human lives. She continued her research by studying in Dublin, Ireland this past summer.

Rose Cohen-Sandler is majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She has been eager to pursue a career in medicine from a young age. As an undergraduate medical assistant for Clinica Tepati, a student-run clinic at UC Davis, she has learned the importance of providing culturally-sensitive healthcare. She hopes to incorporate this knowledge and serve underserved communities in her professional career. Rose is also a member of Vision Dance Troupe, a contemporary and jazz dance company. Dance helps create balance in her life and is a healthy way to release stress.

Kate Fizell Founder’s Undergraduate Scholarship

McKenna Weitzel is majoring in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning. She sees herself in the future as an advocate to implement sound environmental and ecological practices. Her appreciation of wildlife and conservation is what inspired her to major in this field. With her major, teaching, research and public service are all viable future career options. While at UC Davis, she has volunteered with the Special Olympics Club, become a part of the UC Davis Women’s Rowing team and worked for the Gold Country Wildlife Rescue Center.

Erika Y. Cisneros is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and wants to continue her education to obtain a Ph.D. She moved to the United States when she was twelve years old in search of the American Dream. Her mother believed that education was key to a better life. After graduation she wants to use her education to assist the homeless population in her community. She would like to create her own non-profit organization and merge it with her career to provide this population with the mental health support they need.

Blanche L. Price Scholarship

Yascara Jimenez Chavez is majoring in Psychology and Spanish. She was born in Tarandacuao, Gto. Mexico. When she was 15 years old, her family moved to the United States. She is pursuing a career in counseling or teaching. In community college, she was president of the Puente club and worked as a Peer Mentor and writing tutor.

Carol Lee Coss Memorial Scholarship

Cozette Ellis is a Design Major and plans to pursue design as a career. She is inspired by the human-centered goals of the program that will help her do good work for people, not profit. She is constantly learning, so that her career plans will morph with the classes and opportunities as they present themselves. She has been involved in community service since the seventh grade and continues to be involved at UC Davis.
