Garden of Learning
Our school garden program is based on the Garden of Learning curriculum developed by Kelli Wessman from the Schnell School in Placerville, CA. Parent volunteers help students learn many gardening skills as they dig, plant, harvest, and compost.
Assemblies
Assemblies are scheduled throughout the year for the students at Willett.
Chorus
The Willett Elementary Chorus meets on Tuesday mornings from 7:55-8:25 am in the Multipurpose Room. (MPR). Chorus is open to all students in grades 3-6.
Challenge Club
Join the Challenge Club on Mondays after school and move those feet!
Pub Club
The Willett Publications Club is an after school club for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders interested in writing, drawing, and putting together a student newspaper and literary magazine.
Art Museum
The themed exhibit is held for approximately one week in the Multipurpose room. Students and teachers work to learn about individual artists to produce beautiful artwork representing their styles and themes.
Battle of the Books
Battle-of-the-Books is a library program for 4th, 5th., and 6th. grade students. Battles are held in the late spring.
Reading Incentive Night
This is a library program that encourages families to read together.
Parent Seminars
Parent Seminars are scheduled throughout the year to benefit parents, children and teachers at Willett.
Kids in Motion
“No Child Left on their Behind!”
Willett Field Day
3rd-6th graders spend the morning on the playground and field areas participating in events such as the baseball toss, basketball obstacle course, the long jump, arena tag, and the water balloon toss. K-3rd graders travel in their regular class from one event to another whereas 4th-6th graders are split into mixed grade level groups with one teacher as a leader. Parents help to run each of the 14 stations.
Future Problem Solvers
An international competition requiring students to analyze future scenarios: determining the challenges society would face, selecting the key underlying problem, providing multiple solutions to the problem, evaluating the solutions based on created criteria, and developing a plan of action to solve the problem.
Back to School Picnic
The annual Back-To-School Picnic is sponsored by the PTA and is held in the Sycamore Park for Willett families and friends.
Math Olympiad
A national competition in mathematical reasoning and problem solving. There are five separate contests during the year.
Project Citizen
A national competition involving students in the American political process: determining a local problem or need, collecting data on the problem, evaluating possible courses of action, narrowing the focus to a single course of action, and appearing before one or more political bodies to sell the plan.
Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination (DI), California Odyssey of the Mind Association's creative problem solving program is open to all Davis students from kindergarten through college aged.
Science Fair / Family Science Night
6th graders complete their 6 month long science fair projects and display them in the multi-purpose room for families to see and admire.
Presidential Fitness Program
Each spring, students in fifth and sixth grades participate in various physical events that can make them eligible for awards.
Spelling Bee
The schoolwide spelling bee champion then advances to the regional competition of the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee, sponsored locally by the Sacramento Bee.
The Willett Variety Show
The Willett Variety Show is held in the Spring, All Willett students are encouraged to practice a talent and tryout. This is a wonderful way for students to perform and share their many special talents with their peers at school.
