Claws, Jaws and Animal Talk

Learn about animals and their habitats with the help of visiting scientists. The Animal Ambassadors program of the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Extension will bring hands-on activities for Explorit visitors to investigate to learn about animal anatomy, diet and their interactions with humans. Family Astronomy Night
Saturday, April 8, 2006
This combination program offers something for children and adults, whether a seasoned astronomer or just newly turned on to the stars. From 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Dr. Chris Fassnacht will present a lecture on gravitational lenses and black holes for teens and adults while children can participate in guided hands-on activities. Then from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m., all are welcome to step outside to look through telescopes with the assistance of the UC Davis Astronomy Club (weather permitting). Maggot Art!
Saturday, April 15
Forensic entomologist Rebecca Bullard leads this program where you can paint with maggots. Using different colors and live maggots, visitors will create fascinating artwork that's safe for everyone including the maggots. Visitors will learn about maggots and their role in forensic science. Lecture: Discovering Extrasolar Planets

It was only ten years ago that the first planets outside of our solar system were discovered. Today, over 150 such planets are known. These discoveries have revealed an amazing diversity of planetary systems, none, though like ours. Learn about what the next decade of discovery should be like from one of the area's leaders in planet discover, Chris McCarthy of San Francisco State University. All About Bats

There are a lot of myths about bats. Here's your chance to break those outdated notions and learn more about these fascinating mammals. Dharma Webber with the California Native Bat Conservancy will have information, activities and even some live bats for visitors to see firsthand. What an Animal: Fins and Feathers and other Creature Features:
Some fly. Some have eight legs. Some even change colors. Animals are everywhere and come in all shapes and sizes. Investigate the features of various animals and come eye to eye with some live ones, too. Admission is $3 per person. Tuesday-Friday, 2-4:30 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday, 11-4:30 p.m. at Explorit Science Center, 3141 5th Street, Davis. Call (530) 756-0191.
