Sonic Soup

Percussion, wind, string and more - experiment with sound through all kinds of musical instruments. All visitors will get a chance to create a variety of sound makers to take home. Pollinate Your Mind

Meet some insects visiting Explorit in this program that marks the opening day of the new exhibition, "What an Animal! Fins and Feathers and Other Creature Features." The UC Davis Bohart Museum and members of the UC Davis Entomology Club will bring live and preserved insects. Learn about culinary insects, beneficial bugs and more. Sponsored by Davis Waste Removal. Lecture: Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is the science of building devices and machines made up of individual molecules and atoms. These devices can perform functions similar to that of a computer chip. The name comes from the unit of measurement, a nanometer, which is one billionth of a meter. Nanotechnology has been hailed by many as the ultimate solution in areas of computers, alternative energy and even in air pollution reduction. Learn more about this cutting edge technology at "Molecular Architecture: The Foundation of Nanotechnology" presented by Mark Mascal of UC Davis. Uncover the World of Burrowing Owls

John McNerney, the wildlife resource specialist with the City of Davis, will make an all-ages presentation on burrowing owls. Learn about these owls and take a guided tour of the nearby owl preserve in the Mace Ranch Park. Don't miss the owl pellet investigations. Sponsored by Davis Waste Removal. Free. Hands-on exhibition at Explorit Science Center: "Catch a Wave: The Science of Light and Sound," which runs through March 12, 2006. When lightning strikes, you'll often see the bolt before you hear the thunder even though both light and sound travel as waves. Discover the properties of light and sound and conduct some of your own wave experiments. Admission is $3 per person. What an Animal: Fins and Feathers and other Creature Features:
Some fly. Some have eight legs. Some even change colors. Animals are everywhere and come in all shapes and sizes. Investigate the features of various animals and come eye to eye with some live ones, too. Admission is $3 per person.
