Rugby Summer 7’s Coming Up
The Davis Boy’s Rugby Club is recruiting high school boys in 9th-12th grades to play Rugby 7’s this summer. No experience is necessary. We will teach you how to play. The team is open to all high school aged boys. You don’t have to be in the Davis School District or live in Davis to play for the Davis Rugby Club. All are welcome.
Rugby 7’s is a fast paced and exciting game where two teams of 7 kids play on a full size pitch (football size) for two 7 minute running halves. This game takes speed, strength and stamina to play. Rugby 7’s will be an Olympic sport in the summer games in 2016.
We expect to participate in 4-5 tournaments all on Sundays in June and July. We play 3-4 games each tournament with the day running from approximately 9 am to 3 pm. We understand kids have summer vacations and we work around that so missing a tournament or two isn’t a problem. Practice will be minimal with one practice a week. We don’t interfere with summer football practices.
Cost per player is still to be determined but not expected to exceed $70. Players new to the club who didn’t play rugby 15’s for either Davis or another Nor Cal Rugby team will need to be certified (CIPP) thru the league. That costs approximately $75. Kids who didn’t play Rugby 15’s this year for Davis must also complete the required forms. See the link on the left.

Three Davis High School rugby players made the NorCal Varsity All Star Team that will face off against the English Lambs U-18 team on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Treasure Island rugby complex.Congratulations to Nash Nunes (Sr.), Josh Greenfield (Sr.) and Anthony Pedroia (Sr.) for representing the Davis Rugby Club.

February 17, 2015:
We are only two weeks into the season that runs through the end of April. There is still time to come out and play. Winter athletes will soon be finishing up so consider coming to join us on the rugby pitch. All are welcome. Just bring out the Davis H.S. Athletic Clearance card, a mouth piece and a water bottle.
We practice Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm on the grass fields to the east of the football stadium. Contact Mike Goodison with questions: 530-902-1312.

About Davis Rugby Club:
The Davis Rugby Club is a Davis Senior High School Club sport. We established ourselves as a Club Sport in 2012. That first year, the Varsity Boys Silver team finished in 2nd place in league play and won their first playoff game. In our second year, the 2013-14 Varsity Boys Silver Division team went undefeated winning both league and the Northern California Boys Varsity Silver Championship. We are not affiliated with the California Interscholastic Federation of sports like other high school teams. We are recognized by Davis Senior High School as a Varsity sport and players receive Varsity letters for participation. We play under the Northern California Youth Rugby Association made up of teams from the Sacramento region, Bay Area and Central Valley. Our main season, Rugby 15’s, runs December through mid-late April. We also run a summer Rugby 7’s program. We are open to all students enrolled in schools in the Davis Joint Unified School District, including Jr. High schools: Harper, Emerson, Holmes, and Da Vinci Jr. High, and Davis Sr. High School, Da Vinci High School, and Martin Luther King Jr. High School.
We welcome all boys in 9th -12th grade to come try the sport and get hooked. We offer the first week of practice as a time to try the sport and see if you want to commit. We are happy to answer any questions you might have….just ask. Kids not yet in high school can still enjoy rugby through other local clubs. See the Links section for more information.
