Spidery Story #1: I Ran on a Spider Web

by Aidan M., age 6  (told to Tony Fanning)

Be careful on Spider Webs!

This morning I woke up very small. My clothes were very small, too.

How small was I? For breakfast I ate a crumb from the cookie I brought to bed last night. It looked big!

I wanted to look outside. There was a spider web from my pillow to the window. I got on the web and ran toward the window. The spider wasn't on the web, or else I wouldn't have got on it.

I remembered to run on just the threads that ran out from the center. They weren't sticky at all.

The threads connecting across the center ones were sticky. A fly was caught on one of them. I thought that I might even be able to walk across those if I walked tippy-toe. There wouldn't be much of me to stick to the web that way.

I would be a good spider.

I got to the window and looked out. It was raining. The drops were bigger than I was. I wanted to go outside and splash in puddles, but I couldn't.

I was tired of being small. So I got big.
