Facebook Fan Boxes provide a way of connecting your site to your organization's Facebook page.

If you've already created a Facebook page for your organization, adding a Facebook Fan Box to your site is a simple, two-step process.

  1. Find your Facebook page's ID. To do this, click on the logo (wall picture) in the upper left of the page. Now, look in the address bar for something like:
    https://www.facebook.com/album.php?profile=1&id=264362359098
  2. Your page's id is the number following "id=". Now, go to the top page of your organization's SimpleSite. Log in and choose the edit tab. Fill in your API Key in the Facebook page ID in the Facebook Page ID field. Save the web form.

This How-to applies to: Any version.

Question

Your Fan Box instructions indicate 2 things are needed: API key field and page ID but the YC PAWS Admin section has only Facebook Page ID. Am I missing something?

Nothing missing

Facebook updated this mechanism to only require a page id. SimpleSites were updated to match, but the documentation was not. The doc (above) is an updated version and only mentions the page id.

New Facebook page id

Here is a sample of the new page id that comes up on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/media/set/?set=pa.227104183972165

I have been entering the # at the end without any other symbols on the admin page as my facebook id but no facebook box appears on our page. Am I entering something incorrectly?

Very last part

Your Facebook ID is the very last part of that page: 227104183972165. It will show more clearly when you look at the group page itself.

Fan Box Still not appearing

Posted by davisparentsdo at 09-04-2012 12:14 PM

I have typed the Facebook ID exactly as specified and saved my web form but no fan box appears on my page. Do I still need to add a particular type of content to get it to appear? Am I missing a step here? How can I get help troubleshooting this one?

Visible from here

It looks like you've got it to me. If you're not seeing it, you may need to refresh the view.

By the way, for support, contact msmosaic@dcn.org. Commenting on a page isn't a reliable way to get help.

Fan Box Not visible on Explorer 8

Will do. FYI...I can see the fan box when I use the Google Chrome Browser but when I use Internet Explorer 8, the fan box is not visible...Strange.

It's entirely possible that Microsoft has done something to break these. However, that's going to need to be fixed by Facebook. These fan boxes basically give a section of your site to Facebook, and they're responsible for the display.
