"Davis Community Meals provides low-income and homeless individual and families with housing, food, and human services to help them rebuild their lives. Tuesdays from 5:45 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. a full course meal is served to an average of 60-100 persons. The meal is prepared and served at the Church Hall of St. Martin's Episcopal Church located at 640 Hawthorne Lane, Davis. The meals are available to all members of the community. In addition to cooks and coordinators, each meal requires between 12-20 volunteers for food preparation, dining room set-up, meal service, and cleaning. The volunteers are often organized by local religious organizations, service groups, and university affiliated fraternities, sororities, and societies, and departments. Individual volunteers are welcome. In addition, Shelter Monitors and Resource Center Assistants are needed for the shelter and resource center located at 111 H Street in Davis. The shelter is open every night of the year. Shelton Monitors are responsible for overseeing activities at night. This includes completing intakes on new clients, performing drug and alcohol testing, assigning bed spaces, noting activities and behaviors in the log and monitoring chores. The rest of the time is spent socializing with clients. Evening shifts are from 6:00pm - 11:00pm. The resource center is open from 8:00am - 12:00pm Monday through Friday. Resource Center Assistants perform general office tasks such as answering the phone, taking messages and filing. They also help members of the community obtain the services they need, such as referrals for food, clothing and eviction prevention. For information on volunteering at the shelter, call (530) 753-9204 or (530)757-1306 or see Davis Community Meals Shelter Keyword: Hunger, homelessness, substance abuse..."
