PRESIDENT (Pick 1):

Sara Jones: I am running for co-president because I want to continue the great volunteer work that Red Cross Club has done for many years. I was an officer for two years: one year as an activities coordinator and this year as vice president. Being an officer and a volunteer for the Red Cross Club has been a wonderful experience because I got to work with awesome people who care about helping the community.

Sarah Katz: Hi ARCC members. My name is Sarah Katz and I am running for President. Currently, I am one of our club's Activities Coordinators and have been involved with the ARCC for the last year. I have facilitated many of our  events like Hero's Luncheon, Davis Community Meals, and currently the Baskets of Love Project. In addition to my ARCC Officer position I have been an active volunteer at the Yolo County American Red Cross Chapter. I am certified as a CPR/First Aid Instructor and am trained in Disaster Services. I have five years of experience working in a hospital as a Medical Laboratory Technician while I was enlisted in the U.S.Army. I also trained all new personal on laboratory procedures. I believe I am very approachable and will do my best to promote and  encourage the growth and development of our club. Community service, health, safety and preparation are very important to me, as I am sure trey are to each of you. I will strive to ensure your ARCC experience  is as rewarding as you had expected it to be when you first joined. Vote Sarah Katz for ARCC President!!

VICE PRESIDENT (pick 1):

1. Sajjasd Samat: I am currently with ARCC as an activities coordinator and I am eager to become more involved as vice president. As activities coordinator, I helped organize fundraiser events and volunteer activities for my fellow members. Furthermore, I demonstrated many leadership skills such as exceptional communication as well as team work. I believe team work is a very critical component in any successful organization and I hope to continue my great experiences with ARCC as vice president. One of my goals as vice president is to help expand the club by networking. Many clubs on campus tend to host events by themselves and this can serve as a limitation due to the coursework. Networking with other clubs would allow a much larger window of opportunity because collaboration can allow us to host bigger events and attract more individuals to the event, which essentially can lead to a more successful event. I look forward to meeting all of you as your next vice president. Thank you.

2. Harpreet Chauhan - Harpreet has been a member for two years and gave a speech at the last meeting.

SECRETARY (pick 1):

Hailey Aikins: Hello! My name is Hailey Aikins. This is my first year in Davis as a transfer student from San Francisco State.  While in SF, I had the opportunity of participating in volunteer work that brought aid to people suffering various problems of the city (i.e. homelessness, environmental justice issues). My experience there made me increasingly interested in the needs of the community and when I moved to Davis I found that opportunity again in the Red Cross Club. I've also worked as a tutor in SF and as a full-time receptionist at KW Realty over the summer which gave me the opportunity to meet many different people and experience working to assess their needs. I believe I would make a great club officer because I am dedicated to my commitments and the people I'm helping.

Amy Tam: Hi everyone, I'm Amy. I'm a third year, and will be fourth next year. My interests are languages, tv dramas, sports, singing, and helping people. I don't have any fancy stories to share to show the vast amount of experience I have as officers in other clubs before or anything like that; but last year I did get to chance to be the treasurer/secretary for a sports club at UC Davis: running errands, collecting dues and such. I've joined many clubs in both high school and college, which includes anything from a movie club, ethnic/cultural club, sports club, to a volunteering club like Red Cross. Even though I enjoy just being a member of a great club like Red Cross since I like to help others as much as I can, I feel that getting a chance to be part of the leading team would be a very valuable experience as well. I have to start somewhere. Of course I'm not aiming to run for president right off the bat; I would like to run for Secretary primarily because I feel confident that is something I can do and will be good at. My goal is to take part in the team, and that is any part of the team. I am very patient, organized, and detail-oriented. Please vote for me to give me a chance to do even more for the community and the club! Thanks!

Antonia Wong: Hi everyone! My name is Antonia Wong. I enjoy my time with the club
and like to get more involved and I hope you can help me with that by
electing me as your Secretary for the next school year. I had previous
leadership experiences as Captain for an academic team and Activities
Director for a service club and volunteered in elementary school. My
keen attention to detail as well as taking joy in working with charts
and tables make the Secretary position a perfect job for me. When I am
elected to be Secretary, I will keep all of you updated about our club
and work with you so you can have an enjoyable and fun experience in
the club.

Brenda Lee Hi you guys!  I’m sincerely sorry I can’t make it to the meeting today.  I have a mild form of pneumonia so I’m doing you all a favor by not spreading my contagious virus!  That’s me being considerate so you should be considerate and consider me for secretary!

So what makes me the most qualified candidate as secretary?  Well, first of all, I know what the position of secretary entails.  I have had previous leadership roles as secretary and corresponding secretary.  As secretary, I would like to apply my previous leadership experience to make Red Cross Club run functionally and efficiently.  I’d like to increase active membership and I will commit my 100% to making sure that the club stays strong, works together, serves the community, and provides a memorable and beneficial experience to all members.

Getting down to the nuts and bolts of the secretary’s responsibilities, I am organized, thorough, and on task.  I take detailed notes and strangely enjoy tedious tasks like writing notes, sending out e-mails, typing, etc.  Four years ago, I won first place in chapter in a business competition in the subject word processing.  This means, I thoroughly know how to write a professional business letter.  My relaxed behavior makes stressful tasks less stressful and I plan on overlapping roles with other officers to make a more efficient and friendly team-working club.  BRENDA LE FOR SECRETARYYYYYYYYYYY.

Amanda Steenbeke: gave a speech at the last meeting

TREASURER (pick 1):

1. Catherine Yun: Hi, I am Catherine Yun, a junior who is majoring in Psychology, with an emphasis in biology. I am a new member to the Red Cross group, but have participated in various health-related and community service events. I have a passion for helping others and learning more about health care. I would like to help plan community service projects, learn about CPR, and would like to become an officer for this club…the TREASURER. I can handle my money well, and will make sure our money will go to a good cause. Vote me! Thanks.

2. Sophy Prak: Hi everyone!!! My name is Sophy Prak and I'm running for Treasurer. Being in the RCC has given me the opportunity to meet new people, take a CPR class, and participate in events such as the blood drive, the Prader-Willi Conference, and the upcoming Relay for Life. My previous leadership experience includes being a Link Crew leader and from this, I learned that in order to be a good leader, you must first be a good role model. I try my best to attend all the meetings and go to all the events I signed up for. Currently, I am interning in the Pediatric ER department at the med center and volunteering there has improved my organization skills, communication skills, and my ability to multi-task. I believe I can fulfill the role of treasurer because I am able to organize and keep track of money. Some examples include counting and managing the money at my parent’s small business, making deposits, and being able to pay my bills on time. Thank you and please vote for me!!! =)

PUBLICITY (pick 1):

1. Angela Samra: Upon entering UC Davis I joined Red Cross Club and have been involved as a member for about 2 years. Prior to this, I was in a similar club in HS called Key Club for four years. Overall, I have been actively involved putting in over 200 hours of community service with various organizations and programs.  Among these organizations and programs I have volunteered within hospitals, rest homes, homeless shelters, schools, and churches working with various people in promoting causes and reaching goals.

2. Jason Leigh: "Hello fellow RCC members. My name is Jason Leigh and I am running for the Publicity Officer position for the 2009-2010 school year. I am a third year student majoring in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. What makes me a good candidate for the officer position you ask? Last quarter, I worked with the UC Davis Washington Program to help market the various internships they have toward male science and engineering majors. This quarter, I am an active member of the student advisory committee for the Center for Leadership Learning where a group of students and I try to thinks of ways to promote and make students aware of the free seminars the center offers that teach people how to become better leaders. I am also the co-chair officer of the bike-a-thon for the Habitats for Humanity Club where I organize, coordinate, and direct every member of the club in order to make the bike-a-thon a success. By taking all of my experience working with these programs, I hope to make the Red Cross Club an organization that everyone will want to join and participate in." – see photo attached

ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR (Pick 1):

1. Miranda George: Hello Everyone! My name is Miranda George and I am running for Activities Coordinator! I have been a member of Red Cross for two years, so I feel that I know the inner workings of the club, am qualified for the position, and I know how best to serve you. As your Activities Coordinator, I will work to increase membership participation by organizing more events, fostering the interaction between club members. In addition, I want to increase the availability of local community service opportunities for club members by organizing projects within the Davis community and offering transportation. I think it is important that we strengthen the bonds within our club as we strive to strengthen our communities, too; and as your Activities Coordinator I will work towards achieving this goal. Thank you for your time and consideration.
