All of the past successes of our Band Program, 2006-07

Car Wash another fundraising success!

The Car wash this week-end raised $806 for the band! Thanks to Trish Price who organized this event, students and volunteers who did the washing and drying, and all the people who let us wash their dirty cars.

Our last big event for the year is the Pops Concert on June 1st. This is my favorite event because we get to kick back listen to some great music and enjoy good food. This year, we will have a raffle for an IPOD nano. More details to follow.

Our T-shirt contest is off to a wonderful start. The winner of the t-shirt design will win a $50 gift certificate to Watermelon Music.

It's been a wonderful year. See you at the Pop's Concert!

Jr High Band Music Festival a Grand Success

The Junior High School March Music Festival was a grand success! Our students were given the opportunity to listen to other bands and orchestras, judged for their performance, exhibit their ability to sight read music, learn from our expert judges, and just have a lot of fun. Thanks to Mr. Quick and Mr. Dupertuis for all their hard work.

This year, Holmes was in charge of food sales. Thanks to Tia Choy, Jeanny Park, & Trish Price who help purchase food prior to the event. We had 27 wonderful volunteers who worked at the lunch tables or the snack bars. Thanks to Sue Vigano, Debbie Yeaman, Angie Hart, Dotti Egel, Cathy Farman, Elizabeth Vivoda, Lorna Wilson, Sarah Schrupp, Karen Magliano, Trish Price, Janet Soto, Joanne Valerio, Jeanny Park, Poppy & Mike Elfant Stode, Randy Chinn, Richard & Nina Roarke, Lisa Prager, Emily Burstein, Mike Coleman, Gene Berk, Terri Pierle,Ted Posner, Ernie Silva, Elaine Talley, and Lisa D'Angelo.

Special thanks to Lisa D'Angela who saved the day by running home to get her coffee maker.

This event would not have been possible without the unlimited help of Richard & Nina Roarke, Jeanny Park, and Sue Vigano. What a great group of people!

The next event is the Car Wash on April 28th. This is a fun event for the students and a great way to get your car clean. We will need volunteers to help. More information will be coming. See you at the Car Wash, Elaine Yee

HJH Band Update , 11/9/06

Thanks to all the students and families who participated in the Coffee Fundraiser. We raised close to $2,000! Mr. Quick was able to order some more musical arrangements with a portion of the funds. Thanks to Colleen Perry who did an excellent job organizing this fundraiser. Orders can be picked up at the Winter Formal Concert.

November 13th is the band field trip to the high school for the 8th and 9th grade advance bands at 1-3pm. If you can help chaperone please contact Mr. Quick.

Do you have any old cell phones or empty computer ink cartridges? The Band has a recycling program to raise funds. Both inkjet and laser ink cartridges are accepted. Just have your student bring them to Mr. Quick.

Mark your calendar for our first band parents meeting of the year. It will be on Wed., November 29th at 7pm in the music room. Our band has been successful because of generous volunteers. Please join us as we plan for the Winter Concert and other band activities.

Thanks to Patricia Price and Gay Bourguignon who graciously did student check in at the Friends and Family Concert. This is very helpful to Mr. Quick.

HJH Band Update, 10/6/06

Hello Everyone,

There is a lot going on right now so I thought I should write a brief update to bring everyone up to speed.

Next Thursday is Friends and Family Night. The concert will start at 7:00pm in the Holmes MPR. The call time for the students is 6:30 and the dress is band shirt casual. If you are planning on playing a solo or small ensemble piece please make sure to get me the information on Monday so that I can write a program.

New band shirts will be distributed next Wed. in time for the concert...Thank you Dotti Egel for working so hard to get them done.

Huge Thank you to the Sacramento Youth Symphony Jazz Program for generously lending Holmes a complete drum set for the school year. Check out the amazing program that they run at www.sacys.org

An even huger thanks for your generous donations; we are still receiving cheques and I'll be able to order new music stands next week.

The Music Angels article in The Enterprise on Wed. has already made a difference, we have had a trombone and a drum set donated. Both instruments are in very good condition. The drums set came with cymbals and a really nice snare drum (we need a snare stand, two cymbal stands, a high hat stand, and a throne to fill it out).

Earlier this week I handed out the North Bay Honor Band audition material. This is an audition group that meets in Vacaville for one weekend in January. The audition recordings are not due until December so there is plenty of time for everyone who is interested to get the material and prepare it. This is not required but is a great experience. This year the exceptional band composer Robert W. Smith has written a new piece for the group and will be the guest conductor as well.

Parents, The school year is just beginning to gear up with our first concert of the season, "Friends & Family" on Thurs. Oct. 12 at 7pm in the Holmes MPR. This is a fun concert where students, family member, and friends perform for our pleasure. It is a great way to enjoy the talent in our community. Ice Cream will be available for purchase after the concert. Dave Strand from WE CARE COFFEE will give a brief presentation about our coffee fundraiser. We will have free coffee available to sample. Order forms will be available at the concert. Delivery date of all orders will be at the Winter Formal Concert.

Mark your calendar for our first Lamppost Pizza Fundraiser on Oct. 19th. Lamppost will donate 33% of all pizza purchased between 4pm-9pm. Just mention Holmes Band.

Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to chaperone Friday's dance. A good time was had by both students and parents. Special thanks to Elizabeth Blake for organizing the dance.

Dont' forget to turn in all your old cell phones and used printer ink cartridges to Mr. Quick for recycling. In previous years, the band has made over $1,000 from recycling cell phones and ink cartridges.

This year, we were not assigned a carousel date. Thanks to all the people who volunteered to help. We will keep you in mind for next year.

Thanks to all the families who have responded to the Direct Donation drive. 36 families have helped us reach our goal of purchasing new music stands. Mr. Quick will be ordering them as soon as possible.

We are starting a clothes closet for formal concert attire. If you have black pants/skirts or white shirts/blouse that no longer fit your student, please consider donating them to our clothes closet. Donations will be accepted by Mr. Quick.

At our informal concerts, students wear the band tee shirt or a blue plain tee shirt. There are still t-shirts available for purchase. Please check with Mr. Quick. Thanks to Dotti Egel, our t-shirt coordinator.

Thanks for supporting our band! Elaine Yee
