Tower of Jewels erupts into bloom!
The Tower of Jewels (Echium wildpretii) is in full floral
display in the Rose & Flower Garden. These biennial plants
from the Canary Islands stand 7-8 ft tall and were started from seeds
last spring. They grew for a year as silvery rosettes of spiky
leaves and have erupted into bloom this spring to the amazement of
Central Park visitors. After the flowers fade in early May the
plants will set hundreds of seeds and then die. Come check out
this spectacular plant before it's too late!
