All April Hikes CANCELLED

15 April, Wednesday, Canyon Keeper Hike       
Hike, (1A) Knickerbocker Area, multiple trails, Cool

We’ll make a 4-5 mile loop hike on the north side of Olmstead Loop Area.  The trail may be muddy if recent rain, and there may be some creek crossings.  Exact trail will be chosen based on conditions. We’ll start out on Olmstead Loop then Ranch Road to the turn off to Turtle Pond and see if we spot some sunbathing on the rocks or logs, or if any ducks are in the pond.  Then we’ll hike the Hidden Trail till we rejoin Olmstead Loop.  We’ll then loop back either on portions of Olmstead Loop or cut over to Knickerbocker Creek on unnamed trail depending on trail conditions.  Along the way, we’ll discuss the many birds and animals that call this area home and why.  May also get to see some spring wildflowers. Bring water, lunch, essentials No dogs.  Rain cancels.

Meet at 10:00 am at Parking lot in Cool behind the fire station off Hwy 49.  Bring pass or $ for state parking fee. You can also park in business area near road and walk back to meeting area. Leader: Sheila Toner (H) 530-886-0673.

FYI: There may be some road work still in progress on Hwy 49 between Auburn and Cool. If you need specific directions to parking lot in Cool call phone number above prior to hike.

Please note: Canyon Keeper Hikes are not Sierra Club hikes. Canyon Keeper meetings are canceled due to virus concerns – but the hikes are continuing under the following condition: no pre-meeting to potentially car pool.
