Hike (1A). Weimar Institute

This is a little treasure surprisingly close to home. The trails wind through the foothills surrounding the Institute, which is a retreat that allows the public to use its network of trails. There is also a bit of interesting history associated with the Institute that served as a TB clinic in the early 1900’s. About 5 miles and 750’ elevation gain.  Bring lunch, water and essentials. No dogs. Rain cancels. Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:30 a.m. Leader: Chris Fox fox_chris@att.net or (day of hike only) 916-918-9510.

Hike (1A). Knickerbocker Creek/Olmstead Loop Area (Canyon Keeper’s Hike)

We'll make a pleasant 3-4 mile out and back hike on the paved road (Or maybe a loop with Knickerbocker Creek Trail one way and road the other, depending on conditions) in the Knickerbocker Creek/ Olmstead Loop Area in Cool. This outing offers a nice hike alongside rolling oak woodland and meadows. We’ll discuss the history of the area, as well as why it is a local hotspot for bluebirds.  Meet at 10:00 at trailhead behind the fire station in Cool.  Bring water, snack if you wish, essentials and parking pass or $ for state parking fee.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  If you wish to try to arrange car pool with others, meet at 9:30 am at Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80.  Leader: Sheila Toner (H) 530-886-0673
