Biking home from town today,
I stopped beneath the walnut trees,
and
Listened for the sound of birds.
I heard no sound –
No raucous crows, no chattering jays
No magpies with their garrulous ways.
So I went upon my way
Missing my avian chorus –
Mourning the silence.
