Hike (1A). Sagehen Creek
This is a pleasant, easy hike north of Truckee. We’ll walk along Sagehen Creek, going from Highway 89 to Stampede Reservoir, about 5 miles round-trip. This time of year, we should see plenty of wildflowers. Bring lunch, water and rain gear in case of showers. Hike (1A). Beacon Meadow – Forest Service Ridge
Our approx. 3.5-mile high country loop starts by crossing the small but pretty Beacon Meadow near Serene Lakes. Then we’ll hike up to Forest Service Ridge (approx. 400 ft. elevation gain) that runs along the south side of Van Norden Lake / Meadow and affords expansive views of the local area and surrounding peaks. On the way back down, the trail gently wends its way through a shady forest. Have lunch, water, and essentials. No dogs. Rain cancels. Hike (2A). Fordyce Creek from Fuller Lake
Water is released from Fuller Lake down to Lake Spaulding during the day to generate prime time electricity as part of a 7-lake hydroelectric system. We will follow the funky water canal and pipe down to Spaulding Lake; walk around Spaulding Lake and then up Fordyce Creek to a beautiful cascade/waterfall. After lunch we retrace our route. The hike is about 8 miles with 600+ ft. elevation gain. Bring lunch, water, and essentials. Contact the leader for meeting time and place. No dogs. Rain cancels. Hike (1A). A Walk through History Hike on Donner Summit
Hike will combine great scenery with impact of Donner Summit area on history of California and U.S. See faint pictographs left by early Native Americans, walk along portions of first wagon route to California, trace remains of Dutch Flat – Donner Lake Wagon Road, walk on China Wall, as well as other portions of First Transcontinental Railroad. We will not always be on a trail, so be prepared for uneven, rocky footing as well as initial ascent from Rainbow Bridge area up to Sugar Bowl Access Road. Have lunch, plenty of water (there is no shade) and rain gear in case of showers. No dogs. Bring strong flashlight for tunnel. Hike (1B). Rowton Peak
From the Ice Lakes/Royal Gorge area, we’ll hike up to Razorback Ridge and Rowton Peak, elevation 7480 ft. Along the ridge we’ll have expansive views of the North Fork of the American River and the Granite Chief Wilderness. About 5 miles with a total 1,025 ft. elevation gain. Bring lunch, water and essentials. No dogs. Heavy rain cancels. Hike (2A). Granite and Hidden Lakes (Yolano Group)
From Plasse’s Resort near Hwy. 88 we circle part way around Silver Lake, climb to beautiful Granite Lake, contour around to isolated Hidden Lake, and traverse a low ridge and drop steeply back to cars. The lakes feature good swimming and the ridge top spectacular vistas. The loop is about 7 miles with about 700+ ft. elevation gain. Contact the leader for meeting time and place. No dogs.
