Tuesday, May 1

Hike (2A).  Diablo Falls, Mt. Diablo 

Explore canyons and cliffs on the east face of Mt. Diablo.  We climb up Back Canyon, wind around to the Falls Trail, work our way up to and across the falls, and then return down Donner Canyon.  Round trip is about 7.5 miles with 1600’ elevation gain.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Meet at 8:30am at the Davis Park and Ride behind Ikedas Fruit Stand off I-80 at Mace Blvd in Davis.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader:  Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com

 

Wednesday, May 9

Hike (1A). Western States Trail/ Railroad Bed Section (Canyon Keeper’s Hike)

Hike a short portion (approximately 4 miles round trip) of the Western Stakes Trail that goes over the Mt. Quarry Bridge or “No Hands Bridge” and along portions of the Mt. Quarry RR route to Auburn.  We will cross Canyon Creek and admire the year round waterfall en route.  Nice views of the river.  We will stop for lunch on the way back at the rocky beach just below the Quarry Bridge, and enjoy the river.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:30 am.  No dogs. Saturday, May 12

Hike (1A).  Redbud Trail, Cache Creek region  (Yolano Group)

The Redbud trail near Clear Lake passes by an historic Native American site, winds up and over a low ridge, and drops down to lovely Cache Creek.  With luck some redbud and wildflowers may still be in bloom.  If water level permits, we may cross Cache Creek and continue down the canyon.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Contact the leader for information on meeting time and place.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com.

 

Wednesday, May 16

Hike (1A). Empire Mine

Hike an approximate 4.5 - 5 mile loop on the backside of Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley.  Mostly shady trails meandering among old mining claims.  Elevation gain/loss is approximately 300 - 400 ft.  Bring lunch, water and essentials.  No dogs.  Rain cancels. Meet in Auburn at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 at 9:30 AM or at 10:15 in front of the horse trailer parking lot by Penn Gate at Empire Mine.   Leader: Sheila Toner, 530-886-0673.
