Wednesday, March 7

Hike (1A). Cronan Ranch

We’ll hike a pretty 4-5 mile loop from Hwy 49 to the South Fork American River and back.  Nice varied views of the South Fork.   Plan on a long lunch break by the river.  Bring lunch, water and essentials.  Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:30 am or at Cronan parking area off Pedro Hill Rd at 10:00 am.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Sheila Toner 530-886-0673.

 

Tuesday, March 13                HIKE CANCELLED AT LEADER"S REQUEST,  HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED

Hike (2B).  Maine Bar Loop 

In the Auburn State Recreation Area we will descend American Canyon to the Middle Fork of the American River, amble down river a ways, then climb the little-used Maine Bar Trail to the Western States Trail and return to cars.  The Maine Bar Trail is steep and unmaintained in places.  The hike is approximately 7 miles with 1100’ cumulative elevation gain.  Bring lunch, water, good boots, and essentials.  Meet at 9:00 am at the Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at the Foresthill exit off I-80.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, (530) 756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com.

 

Wednesday, March 14 

Hike (1A). Avery Pond, Mormon Ravine (Canyon Keeper’s)

We’ll hike from Rattlesnake Bar trailhead to Avery Pond and a little past Mormon Ravine on trail paralleling American River.  We’ll stop to see if we can spot the turtles in the pond and then continue upstream on fairly level trail along river, returning to Avery pond for lunch.  Bring lunch, water, essentials, and $ for state parking fee.  Meet at 9:30 am at Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80, or Rattlesnake Bar parking lot at 9:45 am. Hike (2A). Peninsula Trails at Folsom Lake

This 6.5-mile hike makes a loop around the peninsula at the northeast end of Folsom Lake. We should see early wildflowers and have great views of the lake. Parts of the trails are often muddy this time of year, so have extra shoes to change into after the hike. Bring lunch, water and essentials. State Park parking fee or pass may be required. No dogs. Saturday, March 24

Hike (2B). High Bridge Loop (Yolano Group)   HIKE CANCELLED AT LEADER'S REQUEST. RAIN AND MUDDY TRAILS.

This adventurous hike will take us up and around the ridges above Cache Creek, with gorgeous views of lush valleys and oak-grassland terrains.  Adventures will include a bold river crossing (twice) and a one-mile cross-country jaunt.  The hike is approximately 8 miles with 1200’ cumulative elevation gain.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  For the river crossing, hiking poles, river shoes, or good rock-hopping balance are recommended.  Meet at 9:00 am at the Guinda post office on Hwy 16 in Capay Valley west of Woodland.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com
