Sophomore, Riley S. reported that the Devil Day car show will be held during lunchtime on 5/23. Junior, Tyler C. reported that the Jr. vs. Sr. Powder-puff game will also take place on 5/23, and that renaissance awards are coming up. Senior, Emily B., reiterated that Senior Ball will be at the Sheraton Grand on 5/12, from 6pm until midnight.
Teacher Report – Gabrielle Jimenez-Tabor
Yearbooks are on sale for $70 and will be delivered on 5/28. Also, there were many DHS winners during the recent National French Contest.
Approval of April Minutes
Minutes from April’s meeting were reviewed and approved.
Treasurer Report - Shelley McFarland
See attached Income and Expenditures report. There was not much activity during the past month; student planners were paid for and some hospitality expenses were reimbursed. The budget was briefly reviewed for line items that require disbursements to the school (or others) before year end.
Vice-Principal Report – Sheila Smith
Teachers are working on submitting Advanced Placement audits (a new College Board requirement for A/P approval). Senior Ball tickets are selling well. Also, the senior letter just went out. It includes details about upcoming graduation ceremonies. 10 tickets will be distributed per student on 6/15 after graduation practice. Students who do not need all their tickets will turn in their extras, which will then be available to those who need additional tickets. In response to a parent question, Sheila also said that the new Social Justice course did get UC approval.
Counselor Report – Jennifer McNeil
Carol is back! Master scheduling is in full swing. Counselors are checking in on seniors and who’s graduating, who’s not, who needs summer school, etc. Counselors are also finishing the CHOICES career program with 10th graders.
Principal Report - Mike Cawley
Kids are getting multiple parking tickets (e.g. for parking in the staff lot), but ignoring them. The new procedure will include: first time – ticket; second time - ticket and warning; third time – towing (which results in hefty costs for the registered owner).
Also, math teacher Miss Henry is on a leave of absence. Kelly Donlan has been substituting for Miss Henry this week. Next week, and thereafter, retired teacher Ken Gelatt will be the substitute.
State PTA Resolutions – Linda Parfitt
Linda summarized the five resolutions (A through E) which will be voted upon at the state PTA convention this weekend. The resolutions relate to public school governance, public school finance, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act funding, comprehensive waste reduction, and indoor air quality. After some discussion each resolution was unanimously supported by this PTA. More information on these resolutions can be found on the state PTA website.
Announcements
Mike Cawley announced that the music teachers do not want to provide live music for graduation, but discussions are continuing.
Respectfully submitted, Stacey Black
