Saturday, November 7

Hike (1A) Wide Awake Mine, Cache Creek Region (Yolano Group)

Explore an historic corner of the Coast Range north of Cache Creek.  We’ll hike a pretty 5 mile loop from the Judge Davis trailhead on Hwy 20 north through oak-grassland terrain, down one canyon past the Wide Awake Mine ruins, then cross-country up and around to a second canyon and return on gravel road via this scenic canyon.  Expect an approximately 600 foot elevation gain, occasionally steep in short sections.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Meet at Guinda post office on Hwy 16 at 9:15am.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader:  Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com; and Leader trainee Jordan Power 301,910.1517. 

 

Wednesday, November 11 (Canyon Keepers)

Hike (1A) PG&E Trail

This approx 4 mile one way hike, down the canyon, offers many unique views of both past and current quarrying operations along the Middle Fork American River.  There are also several nice views up the Middle Fork American River.  Bring lunch, water and essentials.  Meet at the Quarry Parking Lot, (State parking fee or pass required.) on the left off Hwy 49 just past the Hwy 49 bridge below Auburn at 9:30am.  We will shuttle from there to the upper trailhead staring point.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Sheila Toner.  530- 886-0673.

 

Tuesday, November 17

Hike (2B) Black Diamond Mine Regional Park

Mud permitting, from south of Antioch we will pass by Rose Hill Cemetery and the abandoned site of the 19th century coal mine at Nortonville Township en route to Jim’s Place and the Black Diamond Ridge Trail.  We then will explore the Chaparral Loop and return to the cars at abandoned Somersville Township, passing old mine shafts en route.  This hike is about 7 miles with 1400’ cumulative elevation gain.  With bad mud we will pursue an alternative but still fun route.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Meet at 8:30am at the Davis Park and Ride behind Ikedas Fruit Stand off I-80 at Mace Blvd. in Davis.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, 530-756-3973 or  cramerjc@gmail.com

 

Wednesday, November 25

Hike (1A) Greenwood Creek

Pretty, approx 4 mile fairly level loop hike along the South Fork American River.  We’ll spend some time alongside and overlooking the South Fork.  Plan on a long lunch break by the river.  This short hike has it all, views, sandy beach, rocky beach, forested trails, open meadow, sun, & shade.  Hike will begin at Greenwood Creek parking area off Highway 49.  Bring lunch, water and essentials.  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Meet at 9:30 am at Burger King on Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80 in Auburn or at trailhead at 10:00 am.
