Hike (2A) Scotts Lake south of Tahoe (Yolano Group)

From south of Lake Tahoe we climb past Big Meadow, up a gentle canyon, and over a low ridge to Scotts Lake.  The lake itself is mundane, but the trek to it is special.  With luck we’ll enjoy the spectacular fall coloring of the many aspen groves as well as pretty vistas.  We then retrace our route back to cars.  The hike is approximately 7 miles with 700’ cumulative elevation gain.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Meet at 9am at the McDonalds on Broadway in Placerville (Broadway exit off Hwy 50 past signals).  No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, (530) 756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com

Hike (2B) Showers Lake, Carson Pass

From above Caples Lake on Hwy 88 we steeply ascend a high ridge, imbibe spectacular views north and south, and then descend steeply to Showers Lake (just 2 miles so far).  After an early lunch and swim we meander around the ridge through diverse habitats with minor ups and downs, and lo!  There are the cars.   The hike is about 8 miles with about 1550’ cumulative elevation gain.  Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  Meet at 9am at the McDonalds in Placerville (take Broadway exit from Hwy 50).    No dogs.  Rain cancels.  Leader: Jim Cramer, (530) 756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com

Starting from Loney Meadows, we’ll hike up on a newly marked trail through the forest around Bowman Mountain. From the northeast face of the mountain, we’ll look down on Bowman Lake, and traverse around to Upper and Lower Rock Lakes, and back down to our cars, hopefully catching the aspens in fall color. About 8 miles with a total 1,300 ft elevation gain. Bring lunch, water and essentials. No dogs. Heavy rain cancels. Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 in Auburn at 8:30 a.m. Co-leader: Chris Fox, fox_chris@att.net or 916-918-9510, and  David Fudala, Leader in Training, moonshinedf@sbcglobal.net or 209-327-3115.
