Day Hike (2B), High Bridge loop

This adventurous hike will take us up and around the ridges above Cache Creek, with gorgeous views of wide valleys and oak-grassland terrains.  Adventures will include a bold river crossing (twice) and a one-mile cross-country jaunt.  The hike is approximately 8 miles with 1200’ cumulative elevation gain. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.  For the river crossing, hiking poles, river shoes, or good rock-hopping balance are recommended.

Hike (1A). Magnolia Ranch       note change of leaders, change in meeting location

Pretty, approx. 4-mile fairly level loop hike along the South Fork American River.  We’ll spend some time alongside and overlooking the South Fork.  Plan on a long lunch break by the river.  This short hike has it all, views, sandy beach, rocky beach, forested trails, open meadow, sun, and shade. 

Bring lunch, water and essentials.  No dogs.  Rain cancels. 

Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the McDonalds, 13370 Lincoln Way in Auburn at Foresthill Exit off I-80. Turn right from Foresthill Road and go 1 block. McDonald’s is on the left corner. Turn left (uphill) and park in McDonald’s upper lot. We will carpool from there.

Hike (2B).  Cache Creek Ridges and Canyons (Yolano Group)

This hike will take us through lovely Thompson and Craig canyons and across picturesque ridges above Cache Creek.  En route we will visit historic Road Kill Café.  Experience splendid oak-grasslands habitat and vistas.  The hike is approximately 7 miles with 1100’ cumulative elevation gain.  There is an easy river ford, calf deep. 

Bring lunch, water, and essentials.

November 20, Wednesday

CANCELLED: Hike (1A). Tinker’s Cut Off, Manzanita and Stagecoach Loop (Canyon Keepers Hike)

We’ll make a 4-5-mile loop using the narrow, steep but short Tinker’s Cut Off to Stagecoach and then Manzanita as our uphill route.  This is a moderate but steady uphill with some narrow, rutted sections.  We will enjoy the views of the American River on the wide, moderate grade of the historic Stagecoach Trail, dating from the 1850’s, on the way down. 

Bring snack, water, and essentials.  No dogs.

Meet at 9:30 a.m. in Auburn at bulletin board & port-a-potty at Confluence Area, just before OLD (low) Foresthill Bridge, a CA State parking fee area ($10 or pass).  Rain cancels.
