Day Hike (1A). Sagehen Creek
This is a pleasant, easy hike north of Truckee. We’ll walk along Sagehen Creek, going from Highway 89 to Stampede Reservoir, about 5 miles round-trip. This time of year, we should see plenty of wildflowers. Bring lunch, water and rain gear in case of showers. Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 near Auburn at 9:00 a.m. Leader: Chris Fox fox_chris@att.net 916-918-9510.

Hike 1(A). Pioneer Trail to Sierra Discovery Center
A short, informative hike of approx. 4 miles. We’ll start in Bear Valley off Hwy. 20 and skirt the meadow as we walk a section of Pioneer Trail. We’ll hike the Sierra Discovery Center loop trail, stopping to read the informational signs and enjoy listening to the river flowing nearby. Lunch will be in a shady picnic grove next to the Bear River. After having learned about rivers, power generation, local flora and fauna on our loop we’ll head back through the forest and meadow to our cars. There may be a creek crossing depending on spring runoff. Since we are briefly passing a wet meadow, bring bug spray just in case as well as lunch, water, and essentials. Meet in Auburn at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 at 9:00 am. Rain cancels. No dogs. Leader: Sheila Toner 530-886-0673.

Hike (2A). Fordyce Creek from Fuller Lake
Water is released from Fuller Lake down to Lake Spaulding during the day to generate prime time electricity as part of a 7-lake hydroelectric system. We will follow the funky water canal and pipe down to Spaulding Lake, walk around Spaulding Lake and then up Fordyce Creek to a beautiful cascade/waterfall. After lunch we retrace our route. The hike is about 8 miles with 600+’ elevation gain. Bring lunch, water, and essentials. Meet at 9am at the Burger King in Auburn (take Foresthill exit, go right then left on Lincoln Way one block). No dogs. Rain cancels. Leader: Jim Cramer, (530) 756-3973 or cramerjc@gmail.com.

Hike (1A). Beacon Meadow – Forest Service Ridge
Our approx. 4-mile, high-country loop starts by crossing the small but pretty Beacon Meadow near Serene Lakes. Then we’ll hike up to Forest Service Ridge (approx. 400 ft. elevation gain) that runs along the south side of Van Norden Lake and affords expansive views of the local area and surrounding peaks. On the way back down, the trail gently wends its way through a shady forest. Have lunch, water, and essentials. Meet in Auburn at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 at 9:00 am. No dogs. Rain cancels. Leaders: Sheila Toner 530-886-0673 and Sue Barela 916-626-9997.
