Hike (1A) Rocky Road trail to Flora Lake via Lake Angela

Hike to Flora Lake from the Donner Pass Rd, near Donner Ski Ranch, passing Lake Angela along the way.  We will make a short detour to the “catfish pond”.   This route is longer, not as level, and more challenging than our normal route from Boreal, but offers a different look at the area.  It has lots of old trees and nice views.  The trail at times traverses over unmarked granite, making route finding interesting.  Some scrambling is involved on some of the granite sections.  Plan on an hour lunch break at Flora Lake.  Bring lunch, water and essentials.  No dogs.  Rain cancels. Meet in Auburn at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 at 9:00 am.

Then we’ll return back to our cars along the Hole-In-the-Ground trail and the dirt Castle Pass road. About 5.5 miles with up to 1000 ft. elevation gain. Bring lunch, water and essentials. No dogs. Heavy rain cancels. Meet at Burger King, on Lincoln Way at Foresthill Exit off I-80 in Auburn at 9:00 am.
